Couple Counselling

Choosing a partner and staying together through life’s twists and turns is usually not simple. Then deciding to get married and raise a family together makes it even more complex.

After being in a relationship or marriage for a long time, one can easily fall into a trap of not listening to the other person or not communicating his/her needs clearly. Sometimes talking to someone with no connection to you two is all it takes for you to gain perspective. What we offer here is the chance for you to speak to us, knowing we have no preconceived notions of who you are as a couple, and with the added advantage of our skills and training we can guide you through your concerns.

Whether we have petty quarrels, full-blown rows or have simply stopped having fun – very few relationships exist without conflict. As these conflicts begin to happen, so do our health and happiness begin to get affected. For many, first instinct is to try and work through problems by themselves, which is very good, but where it doesn’t seem to work, it can be incredibly useful to seek outside help, rather than wait until things got out of hand.

It is important to note that when you come for counselling you will not simply be told what to do or be criticised, our counsellor is unlikely to offer personal opinion, his or her role is to facilitate change and resolution by helping you both communicate more effectively and reach your own conclusions under professional guidance.

Our counselling will help you achieve the following:

  • Understand how external factors such as family values, religion, lifestyle and culture affect your relationship.
  • Reflect on the past and how it operates in the present.
  • Learn why arguments escalate.
  • Communicate in a more constructive way.
  • Negotiate and resolve conflicts where possible.

Even if things don’t change, counselling may help you to see things in a different way or make the decision that’s right for you to move forward.
